iPhone 5 pre-orders begin September 14 at 12:01am Pacific Time

iPhone 5 pre-order

If you're hoping to get an iPhone 5 on launch day without having to wait in line, pre-ordering is your best bet, and pre-orders start tonight at midnight. Just make sure you've got yourself some coffee, or get in a nap, because it might be a long night. Based on previous years, its going to be an absolute frenzy, consisting of a lot of refreshing of web pages, crashing carrier sites, losing your spot as servers melt under the pressure, etc. If you're lucky, you'll get through and be done within just a few minutes. Just make sure you know exactly which iPhone you want--color, capacity, carrier, and plan--so that you aren't trying to make those decisions while time-outs are occurring.

You'll be able to place your order in the U.S. starting at 12:01 Pacific Time, 3:01 a.m. Eastern on Friday, Sept. 14. Good luck.

The headphones feature a two-grille design, and sit at the edge of your ear canal with the main speaker doing the work. You can get a pair of the new Apple EarPods today for $29, or if you plan on picking up the new iPhone 5, iPod touch, or iPod nano, the EarPods will be included.

Apple Lightning connector

During today's iPhone 5 event, Apple unveiled its new Lightning dock connector that will ship on the new iPhone 5. The company is switching its iOS devices from the familiar 30-pin dock connector, to the smaller 8-pin design. Nothing was said about the speed, but based on the name, we are assuming that the Lightning connector is compatible with USB 3.0 speeds. The connector is also reversible, making it easier to use. Apple has announced the brand new iPhone 5 at this morning's iPhone 5 event, and it's a significant upgrade over the current iPhone 4S smartphone.
